Gary Paul Banhart, age 78, of Horatio, Arkansas died peacefully Saturday, June 3, 2023, at his home.
He was born January 25, 1945 in Parsons, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968. He was stationed at Ft. Bragg, in North Carolina as a medic, and was sent to Nuremberg, Germany as a dispensing pharmacist. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in De Queen. He enjoyed working, drinking his scotch, going to the casino, traveling, blues music, cars, spending time with his grandchildren, and loved his friends and family. He was a sales representative for American Martinsville for 10 years, and twice was awarded salesman of the year. Then Fairfield Chair Company for 10 years, He also owned Banhart Associates for 40 years.
Mr. Banhart was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Opalene Wheeles Banhart; one brother, Chris Banhart and one sister, DeNise Hubbard.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lou Anna Banhart of Horatio; two sons, Blake Banhart; Grant Banhart and his fiancé, Haley Munn of Horatio, three grandchildren, Aubrey Banhart, Graham Banhart and Bennett Banhart; one sister, Kathryn Ament of Clear Lake, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Cindy Banhart of Houston, Texas; a number of nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Celebration of Life for Mr. Banhart will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 24, 2023, in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church in De Queen where drinks and desserts will be served; with Rev. Steve Copley officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist, 424 W Heynecker Ave, De Queen, AR, 71832 or Boys Town.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Father Ramses Mendieta.
