Gary Bell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Raymond E Bond Funeral Home on Dec. 30, 2025.
Gary R. Bell, 45, of New York City, died peacefully at his home on the morning of Tuesday, December 23, 2025, with his father by his side. Born in San Diego, California, on July 28, 1980, he was the son of Timothy and Cathy (Alger) Bell.

Gary completed his grade school education at Maple Hill High School, graduating in 1998. As a young child, he received his first computer from his grandfather-a gift that sparked a lifelong passion for technology. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts, in 2002, becoming the first college graduate on his maternal side. Gary spent his entire career in the technology field, specializing in front-end web development, where he meticulously coded and designed websites.

Gary had many interests and hobbies, always keeping his life full and exciting. He loved to travel and most recently visited Paris, where he saw the Eiffel Tower. A self-proclaimed foodie, he enjoyed trying new foods and cooking for himself and others. He spent time gardening on the rooftops of New York City and worked diligently on tracing his ancestral family tree. Gary was always learning and experiencing new things, eager to embrace everything the world had to offer.

Gary passed after a courageous battle with cancer. He faced his diagnosis head-on and without denial, meeting each day with strength and grace, never complaining while pursuing every avenue to live as long as he could. Gary was a friend to everyone he encountered-always offering a helping hand, a shoulder to lean on, thoughtful advice, or a laugh when it was needed most. He was deeply selfless, constantly ensuring those around him had what they needed and helping in any way he could. He left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Gary was predeceased by his mother, Cathy (Alger) Bell; his paternal grandparents, Gary and Sandra (Barth) Bell; and his maternal grandparents, Arthur and Connie (Williams) Alger. He is survived by his father, Timothy L. Bell of Castleton; his sister, Chelsea L. Bell of Malta; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also survived by a large community of friends, whom he considered to be his family.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be held on January 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, Valatie, with Reverend Nick Becker officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY 10065, or to the New York-Presbyterian Hospital Fund, 525 East 68th Street, Box 123, New York, NY 10065
