It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gary Bruce Carlsen, 74 years old, who passed away on January 7, 2025, at home following a lengthy illness.
Born on October 27, 1950, in Logan, Utah, Bruce was the son of Lowell D. and Betty Lou Carlsen and the third of five sons. He was raised in Logan and graduated from Logan High School in 1968. He met his sweetheart, Mary Susan Jenkins, while dragging main on Halloween. They married in 1969 and were blessed to enjoy almost 56 years together. Their union brought them two children: Sharon Hensley and Richard Carlsen.
Dad worked alongside his father at their family business, Carlsen Gas for Less, until his father's passing. He continued the family business until April 1, 2017, when he decided to retire and sell the business.
Dad was known for his shiny truck always parked outside the gas station, his hardworking nature, and his unwavering passion and motivation. Above all, he was known for the immense love and devotion he had for his family. He was the best husband, dad, and grandpa (Pawka) anyone could ask for. Dad was a kind and gentle man with an infectious giggle and a smile that would light up the room. His children and grandchildren were the highlight of his life.
Dad was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and Mickey Mantle. He also loved watching reruns of The Andy Griffith Show and Superman. His resilience, strength, and determination were evident in everything he did. He especially had fight and fortitude as he endured lung cancer. He leaves behind a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew him.
Dad is survived by his wife, Susan, children Sharon Hensley (Craig) and Richard Carlsen (Jill), Father-in-law, Arnold Jenkins, Brother-in-laws, Lamar Jenkins (Jana), Lynn Jenkins (Rhonda), 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lowell D. and Betty Lou Carlsen, his mothers-in-law, Marilyn Parson and Joyce Jenkins and three brothers.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Brad Goates, Teryl Hunsaker, Dr. Eric Johnson, Todd Hamblin, the Gossner Cancer Center, and all the compassionate nurses who cared for Dad with such kindness.
Due to the cold weather, graveside services will be held at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 E. 400 N. Logan on Monday, January 13, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
