Gary Carrigan Obituary

Gary L. Carrigan, 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Lexington, Kentucky, on August 31, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on June 19, 1950, in Louisville, Kentucky, Gary was the son of the late Mildred Lawson Carroll (Glenn) and Everett Carrigan. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Chastity Ann Carrigan of College Station, Texas, and his son, Wesley Ryan Carrigan of Lexington. He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Madison Carrigan Crump (Sam), Brookynn Carrigan, and Cooper Carrigan. Gary is survived by his two brothers, Donald Jones (Barbara) and Bobby Jones (Lynda) and several loving nieces and nephews which he adored . He was preceded in death by his brother Velmo Jones (Joyce).

A 1968 graduate of Lafayette Senior High School, Gary was truly a "jack-of-all-trades." Over the years, he built successful careers in sales and the automotive industry, served nearly a decade as a Fayette County Constable, and was a beloved school bus driver for Fayette County Public Schools. He was proud of every role he held and made lasting impressions wherever he went.

To know Gary was to love him. He never met a stranger and was never short on words. Known for his big heart, he was a loyal friend, devoted father and grandfather, and a neighbor always willing to lend a hand. He had a deep love for animals-especially his loyal companion Toby, a 13-year-old Jack Russell Terrier mix-and often spoke of his desire to help and protect them all. Gary also had a passion for cars, a fondness for Westerns, and a true joy in seeing his children happy and successful. Above all, he valued time-freely and generously giving it to those he loved. For Gary, strangers were just friends he hadn't met yet.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life service and luncheon will be held in Gary's honor on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. –2:00 p.m. at Crossroads Christian Church, 4128 Todds Road, Lexington, KY.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Lexington Humane Society (Donate – Lexington Humane Society). As Gary often said, "Less than 3% of all charity in the United States supports animal causes." Helping animals was a cause close to his heart, and your support in his memory would mean the world.

My wife (Cindy) and I extend our deepest condolences to Chastity and Wesley for the loss of the father and to the rest of the family as this is a big loss for all of us. Gary was one of my heroes when I was just a little guy and I used to write letters to him when he was in the Army, I thought he was so cool for being a "soldier". There were also a few times that I went to work with him back in the 70's when he drove a milk truck. Gary was always good to me, and I am so glad that he is with God now and not suffering any longer. God bless you Uncle Gary! - Bryan and Cindy Jones
