Gary passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025. He was born in Ogden, Utah, on June 14, 1945. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose legacy of love and strength will be cherished forever.

Born to Edward Albert Chatlin and Elnora Chatlin, Gary was a shining example of hard work and determination from his early days. He attended Ogden City Schools and was a proud Scot of the Ben Lomond Class of 1963. Gary's dedication and drive led him to complete a rigorous four year Sheet Metal Apprentice Program at Weber State College, which shaped the course of his professional life.

Gary's career was marked by his exceptional work as a Sheet Metal Journeyman, Welder, and Foreman. His hands and heart contributed to the construction of significant commercial projects, including the Layton Hills Mall and the Delta Center, which stand as testaments to his craftsmanship and dedication to his trade.

Gary married his loving wife Brenda in 1962, together they built a life filled with love and mutual respect. They have three wonderful children: Marcy Poehls (Dan), Lana Chatlin (Tim Green), and Mark Chatlin (Lorie). Gary's family grew to include seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, with a fourth great-grandchild eagerly anticipated. Each of them was a source of immense pride and joy for Gary.

Beyond his professional achievements and family life, Gary had a passion for the great outdoors. His love for horses, hunting, camping, and farming was not just a hobby but a way of life that he shared with his family and friends. He also found pleasure in remodeling, often lending his skilled hands to improve and beautify the homes of those he loved.

Those who knew Gary would describe him as a man of the highest character. He was honest, courageous, strong, and displayed enormous grit always. His values and work ethic were unmatched, he led by example, showing kindness and compassion to all. His ability to face life's adversities with courage and grace inspired many, and his generosity knew no bounds.

Gary's presence will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. However, his spirit will live on through the memories he created, the projects he completed, and the love he spread. Gary leaves behind a legacy of a life well-lived, marked by devotion to his family, his work, and his friends. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we take solace in knowing that his journey was full of purpose and that his story does not end here, but continues in the hearts of those he touched.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 20th, 11:00 AM at Leavitts' Mortuary, 836 36th Street Ogden, Utah. A reception will be held prior to the funeral service from 9:45 -10:45 AM at the same location.
