Gary Cisewski
There's a saying that when an old man dies, a library burns to the ground. It's to mean that with their passing we don't just lose them but their wisdom, experiences, and stories. Gary was a story teller.
Gary's story ended December 27, 2024, but his story started in Stevens Point, Wisconsin where he was born on February 6, 1952, to Leonard and Bernadette (Klesmith) Cisewski. He was the oldest of 11 children. At 17 he joined the Army as a medic and was stationed in Gelnhausen, Germany. When he returned home, he worked as an orderly at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
In 1977, he met Clara Trojanowski on a blind date, and they married later that same year. They moved to Clara's hometown of Montello to care for her aging parents. After the birth of their son, Benjamin, they moved back to Stevens Point where Gary began working at Lakes Gas for a number of years. Later he worked at St. Michael's Hospital until his retirement in 2014.
Gary loved telling stories from his time in the Army and he had a fondness for ghost stories from his childhood. He enjoyed pranking his family, friends, and co-workers. There is a rumor of a haunted building in Stevens Point that exists entirely based on one of these pranks. Early in his adult life, he enjoyed his time shooting archery with the Montello Bow Benders. His other hobbies included woodworking, hunting, and fishing. His wife would say he would earn a gold star for starting projects without finishing them. But he would also get two gold stars for how well he kept his yard which he took great pride in.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Bernadette, his brothers David and Brian, and his infant son Gabriel (from a previous marriage). He is survived by his loving wife Clara, his son Ben (Stacy) Cisewski, six brothers: Ron (Gail) Cisewski, Wayne (Debbie) Cisewski, Don (Amy) Cisewski, Jeff (Laura) Cisewski, Larry (Dan Anderson) Cisewski, Tom (Dianna) Cisewski, two sisters, Kathy Cisewski, and Lisa (Randy) Raikowski, and many nieces and nephews.
