Gary served in the Army National Guard for six years before his friends Karen and Karl introduced him to his future wife Sharon. Gary was a dedicated and hardworking individual throughout his career. He spent over 20 years employed at Medco before retiring. Despite retiring from Medco, Gary continued to enrich the lives of others through his work at Eagle Point High School until he retired once again. His commitment to education touched the lives of countless students and left an indelible mark on their hearts.
Although Gary excelled in his professional life, it was his connection to the natural world that truly defined him. He cherished the land he owned and tended to with great care. Gardening and farming became a way of life for him as he raised sheep, chickens, and ducks. By involving his daughters Tammy and Trina in these activities, Gary instilled in them valuable lessons such as hard work ethics, punctuality, following schedules, and effective money management.
A profound admiration for nature stirred within Gary's soul. The Clifford family embarked on numerous trips to the beautiful Oregon Coast and ventured all the way to Washington to visit Gary's extended family. But it wasn't just the scenic landscapes that captivated him; animals held a special place in his heart. Gary's generous spirit extended to our feline friends as he warmly welcomed many stray cats into their home, making them cherished members of their family.
Within this circle of love thrived Serena, Gary's beloved cat who provided him immense comfort during challenging times. Their bond was unbreakable and brought solace to both their lives.
Not only did Gary find joy in nurturing plants and animals; he also found great pleasure in passing on his knowledge to younger generations. His grandchild, Angela, was fortunate to learn the art of gardening and fishing from him. Gary's green thumb produced bountiful gardens year after year, as he meticulously studied seed catalogs and experimented with new varieties. Together they explored local lakes, enjoyed swimming, hiked scenic trails, and shared countless picnics. Most notably, a road trip to Wyoming and Montana in their trusty blue 66 Dodge Coronet created cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
Gary's immense love for the great outdoors compelled him to pursue various hobbies and interests. Rock hunting was one of his favorite pastimes, as he would scour the countryside in search of hidden treasures. He delighted in visiting yard sales and collecting fishing poles. Tying flies for fishing not only showcased his creativity but also exemplified his dedication to this beloved sport.
Gary possessed an evocative personality that left an impression on everyone he encountered. He reveled in the simple pleasures of life that often went unnoticed by others. With an unwavering belief in the goodness of humanity, he befriended all those around him and offered a helping hand whenever needed.
