Gary Glenn Cornelius

Gary Glenn Cornelius born on 08/20/1949 made his peaceful journey home on Friday,
02/02/2024, surrounded by family. Gary was born in NC and raised in Salisbury, MD, where he
attended James M. Bennett High School and worked at CW Wright before joining the U.S. Army
in 1969. He was promoted from Specialist Four to the rank of Sergeant prior to discharge in
1975. Sgt. Cornelius received the Good Conduct Medal while assigned as a telephone lineman in
Wurzburg, Germany.
After his service in the U.S. Army, Gary settled in Salisbury, MD with his family and began
working as a truck driver. He thoroughly enjoyed being on the road, dedicating many years and
many miles to Perdue from 1985-2022 and received an award for reaching 3.5 million miles of
safe driving.
Gary loved his church, Abundant Life Worship Center, John Deere tractors, sweet tea (don't
forget the Splenda) and frozen milk. He was steadfast in his faith, believed in the power of
prayer, family and would always put the needs and wants of others before his own. He will be
remembered for so many things, but mostly by his smile, gentle soul, giving heart, dedication to
family, love for the Lord and for being so easy-going.
Gary is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Mariela, his mother, Ruth A. Cornelius, father,
Delmas A. Cornelius, sister, Shirley, and niece, Carmen. He is survived by his wife of 20 years,
Linda Cornelius, siblings: Barbara, Kathy (Lonnie), Sandra (Wilson), Charles (Audrey), Bruce
(Peggy) and Richard (Linda), children: Wally (Amy), Bucky (Angela), Melanie, Ricky and Kaila
(Jobi) and was blessed with 15 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and great nephews. Gary
was also preceded in death by his previous wife of 30 years, Lura Cornelius.
A viewing will be held at Abundant Life Worship Center on Saturday, February 10th, 2024, at
11:00 A.M. Service will start at 12:00 P.M. with a celebration of life following.
