Gary D. Jay of Bay City, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, uncle, cousin, and friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper. He was 72 years old. Gary D. Jay was born on August 12, 1953, in Bay City, Michigan to the late Donald and Irene (Challette) Jay. He was a proud 1972 graduate of Bay City Central High School. Gary attended and graduated from Delta College with his Associate’s. He married Shelly Ann Rappleyea on September 22, 1984; she survives him. Gary was employed in master control at WNEM TV5, retiring after 35 years of loyal and dedicated service. He will lovingly be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his generosity.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Shelly A. Jay of Bay City; cherished daughter, Laurie M. Jay of Bay City; sister-in-law, Barb (Bob) Markusic; brother-in-law, Donald (Jane) Weyeneth; and two beloved nieces: Debbie (Rick) Bulgrien and Pam (Steve) Parcell. Also surviving are several cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Irene Jay; and two sisters: Ivy Hillman and Kitty Lou Weyeneth.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Covenant HealthCare 4th floor neurology staff for all the love and care they provided to Gary and the family.
