Gary Darnell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory - Peachtree Corners Chapel on Dec. 23, 2023.
Gary Max Darnell, a loving husband, father, and grandfather peacefully passed away in his sleep on December 22, 2023.
Max was born on March 18, 1947, in Albertville, Alabama. He was the second son to Ervin and Vera Darnell and brother to Jerry Darnell.
He married his wife, Sandra in 1969 and moved to Georgia in 1970. In his early days, he worked as a draftsman and blueprint checker and later in life, worked in furniture repair.
Max was the father of two sons, Chad and Andy, and was involved in every aspect of their lives from soccer games, pine wood derbies, scouts, building sets and running the concession stand for the Doraville Arts Theatre, recording every performance on his VHS camcorder, and chaperoning chorus trips. And while he was the dad to only two sons, he was like a father to the many, many friends of his children.
He volunteered his time and energy to organizations such as the Special Olympics and the Red Cross. He was a dedicated and cherished member of the Crossroads Church of Dunwoody, formerly North Peachtree Baptist Church.
He loved gospel quartet music, watching television, harassing wait staff, scrolling Facebook on his phone, collecting tools, taking pictures, and relentlessly asking his sons about their cars. He loved taking long drives with his wife by his side as they puttered all over the Southeast and occasional long drives out West.
Max Darnell is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Darnell, his two sons, Chad Darnell and Andy (Gina) Darnell, and his grandchildren, Tabitha and Phoebe Darnell, who he adored so very much. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry (Wanza) Darnell, who shared many cherished moments together.
A private family graveside service will be held on December 29, 2023, at North Atlanta Memorial Park with Rev. Mike Fiddler officiating. Following the service, the family welcomes friends to visit at Crossroads Church of Dunwoody fellowship hall, beginning at 2:00 PM. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Dwight Gary Missions Foundation, https://www.facebook.com/groups/255618776219811/
