Mr. Gary Charles Dayton, 82, of Cheshire, CT, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden, CT.
Gary was born on August 22, 1942 in Winsted, CT, the son of the late Charles W. and Pauline I. Dayton. He was a graduate of the Gilbert School in Winsted, as well as of Central Connecticut State College, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. Gary was an elementary school teacher in the town of Southington, CT for more than 30 years, and resided in Cheshire for more than 50 years.
Gary was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics, rarely missing a game. He enjoyed gardening, especially raising his collection of more than 100 azaleas and rhododendrons. He was also a weather enthusiast, always buying new and better instruments to measure and track Connecticut’s always-changing meteorological conditions.
Gary is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judith M. Dayton of Cheshire; his two sons, Kevin C. Dayton and wife Nancy of Monterey, CA, and Lee C. Dayton and wife Alyssa of New York, NY; and two grandchildren, Henry and Anna Dayton.
Funeral services in celebration of Gary’s life will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 South Main Street, Cheshire. Prayers of committal and interment will follow at New Saint Bridget Cemetery, 144 Higgins Road, Cheshire. Family and friends may gather at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home on Monday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
