Gary Lee Evink, Jr., passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2023, in Cortez, Colorado. He was 48 years old.
Gary was born on May 15, 1975, in Gainesville, Florida. He was a sweet-natured child, possessing a kind soul and a curious spirit. As an adult, Gary remained a "student of life," motivated by a desire to serve others. He began a long and successful career as a board-certified massage therapist in 2000. In 2013, he earned an additional credential as a certified fitness trainer.
Gary had many passions and interests beyond his career in health and fitness. He was an accomplished guitarist and a gifted singer/songwriter who also loved to spend time in nature and pursue outdoor activities in all seasons. He loved philosophy and animals, especially his dog Mojo. Gary's friends and family will remember, and miss, his quick wit and his one-liners. We will also miss his warm heart. Gary believed in people, possibilities, creativity, and love.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Dana Jensen; his devoted mother, Donna Evink; his cherished sister and Number One Fan, Alison Evink; his mother-in-law, Carolyn Jensen; his brother-in-law, Craig Jensen; his four nephews, and his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and treasured friends.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Donald Jensen, and his own dear father, Gary, Sr., with whom he shared a close and special bond. It was with his dad that Gary developed his love of all things outdoors. The two had many adventures and spent weeks traversing the country to backpack, fly-fish, hike, and camp.
Gary loved his friends and family even more than he loved music, or the mountains and high deserts of Southwest Colorado. His family is anguished by his death, and suggests that any memorial donations be made to the S.A.F.E. Coalition of Southwest Colorado.
