Gary Fugere Obituary

Published by West Funeral Home & Life Tribute Center - West Fargo on Nov. 14, 2016.
Gary F. Fugere, 70, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016, from a massive heart attack, in Mesa Arizona. Gary was born on January 8, 1946, the son of Francis and Shirley Fugere. Gary graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1964. He met the love of his life, Virg, in Dickinson while visiting his cousin in 1963. They were married in 1965 and shortly after he proudly served in the Army for 2 years where most of their time was spent in Germany. After leaving the army he worked for Fargo Paper 10 years. He went on to work at Butler Paper Company in 1971 in sales where he built a successful career before retiring in 2012. Because Gary loved to be around people he continued to work part time at Forum Communications Printing until his death. Gary was a friend to many and a stranger to no one. His laugh was contagious and his willingness to help anyone at any time was well known. He loved spending time at his homes on Lake Maud and in Mesa, AZ. His passions were golfing, cheering on the Bison, spending time with his family and his many friends. You could always count on Gary for a laugh, to make you smile and to enjoy a cold one with you. Volunteering and giving to others was important to Gary. He served on the West Fargo Park Board for 30 years, he was a volunteer firefighter for the West Fire Department for 28 years, he served on the VFW board and was part of the Color Guard, and he also served on the Blessed Sacrament Church board. He was also a member of the Eagles and Kaycees. Left to share his memory are his wife, Virg, two daughters; Kim (Rick) Rayl, their children Conor and McKenna, Tonya (Dave) Stende, their children Thomas and Hannah, sisters; Joyce (Adrian) Flicek, Susan (Jeff) Shearer, brothers; Rick (Cathy) Fugere and Todd Fugere, many relatives, dear friends, and his dog Muffie. Gary is preceded in death by his father, Francis Fugere, and mother Shirley Fugere Memorials may be directed to the West Fargo Fire Department and St. Mary's of the Lake. Celebration of Life, Sunday, November 20th from 4-6pm with prayers at 6:00 p.m. at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND. Funeral: Monday, November 21st, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Lakes, Detroit Lakes, MN

My condolences to all Gary's family and friends. I knew Gary for many years, purchasing paper and printing supplies for Morgan Printing in Grafton, ND.
You could always tell Gary was in the building when you heard his laugh.

We are deeply saddened by Gary's sudden passing. Being fairly new residents to Lake Maud, we have only known Gary and Virg for a short time. However we are so thankful and appreciative of how they welcomed us into their life and their group of lake friends. We feel like we have known them forever and will certainly miss Gary's great smile and laughter and his concern and helpfulness to others. Our sympathy to Virg and family. We will see you soon in Mesa. Love and Prayers. Jan & Al

Our sympathy to all of Gary's family. Even though we have been gone from West Fargo for awhile, we have fond memories of the years we spent there. Our favorite time with Gary and Virg was during the week the West Fargo basketball team played in Minot for the ND State Championship. Gary

Gary was a wonderful person. I first knew him as a paper sales rep and then as a co-worker. He was one person who you could always count on to have a smile on his face and a positive attitude. He was so proud of his children and grandkids. He enjoyed his sports and discussing them. He will be missed greatly and I am so sorry for your loss! Peace be with him!

I was sad to see Gary retire after such a successful career in paper sales, because I was going to miss his weekly visits. But, I was happy he could spend more time with his family that he dearly loved. His smile and laugh were so contagious, you couldn't help but enjoy his visits. He really took care of his customers. While I missed getting to work with him after his retirement, I enjoyed his Facebook comments every now and then. My sympathies to you all. I am so glad I was lucky enough to have known such a wonderful guy.

One of the best things to happen to at the Forum was when Tonya called to see if we had a job for her dad because he was driving her mom crazy as the lake was still frozen. What a great addition to our company. Gary was such a happy person that made everyone around him smile. I'll miss the stories about his "honeydo" lists. The best thing about him was his pride in his family. He will be missed.Sorry for your loss.
