Gary C. Fulfer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and a long-time resident of Mountainair, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Mountainair, New Mexico, on January 11, 1947, to Felton and Lucia (Tuton) Fulfer, who resided in Gran Quivira, New Mexico. Gary was the eldest son, with one brother and one sister. He attended high school in Artesia and Mountainair, New Mexico. After high school, he pursued higher education at the Assembly of God College in Waxahachie, TX, He later continued his education where he graduated as valedictorian from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service in 1981. Gary was well-known in Torrance County as a Farmers Insurance agent in Moriarty, New Mexico in the old railroad depot which he bought out of love for trains.
On July 26, 1977, Gary married Carolyn Fulfer in Mountainair, New Mexico, at his Uncle Milt Fulfer's home, uniting their families and raising three sons and one daughter together. He was a devoted member of the Fellowship of God's Promises in Mountainair, New Mexico.
Gary's greatest achievement and source of pride was his faith in Jesus Christ and his dedication to spreading the word of God. He had a passion for trains and enjoyed hunting with his family and friends. His home that he built, was a reflection of his hobbies and interests, with no doubt left in the minds of visitors.
Surviving Gary is his wife of 47 years, Carolyn, at the family home; He is survived by his three sons: Marvin Fulfer and Ginger of Mountainair, New Mexico, Kelly Fulfer and his wife Elizabeth of Portales, New Mexico, Jason Fulfer and his wife Christina of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, and his daughter, Cheri Lujan and her fiancé Cary Hamilton of Cedar Crest, New Mexico. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Morris of Canyon, Texas.
Gary leaves behind a legacy of 14 grandchildren: Cassidy Melton and wife Jessica of Texas, Aylissa Tapia and her husband Lawrence of Moriarty, New Mexico, Shane Fulfer of Edgewood, New Mexico, Ashley Sanchez and her husband Issac of Estancia, New Mexico, Adam Lujan of Austin, Texas, Adrian Lujan of McIntosh, New Mexico, Caleb Fulfer and his wife Leah, Mariah and her husband Ramirez, Aaliyah, Abigail, Evannie, and Garen Fulfer all of Portales, New Mexico, and Hezekiah, Kamron, and Ariah Shiloh Fulfer all of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Additionally, he is survived by six great-grandchildren: Aiden, Lincoln, Charlie, Chloe, Dayton, and Cassius. A host of many friends and other relatives including Scottie Blevins and Mike Johnson who lived with Gary and Carolyn Fulfer for over 24 years.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Felton and Lucia Fulfer, his brother Marvin P. Fulfer, and a great-grandson, Easton Sanchez.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Gran Quivira Church, with Reverends Kelly Fulfer, Clyde Fulfer, and Ed Rimer officiating. Interment will follow at the Round-Top Community Cemetery. Gary will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
