Gary Lee Funaro of Southgate, KY passed away peacefully on July 29th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Gary retired from the wrecking and excavation business. He first joined his father and uncle in the family business after school when he was a student at Newport Catholic High School. Gary continued with Trumbo Wrecking in his later years. He loved to see what was in the old buildings that were torn down to find hidden treasures. His collection of old TVs with the tubes and electronics took him to be the neighborhood TV repairman. Our house was filled with extra tubes and TV's so he always had the extra parts so no one had to spend money on the repair. Gary was always willing to help others and never expected anything in return. Gary also loved to go bowling and we had many great times at Walt Center Lanes.

Walking was another thing he loved to do. You would always see him out and about and it didn't matter how far he had to go. The neighborhood dogs would love to greet him as he went about the neighborhood. Gary loved animals and they truly loved him. The family animals were always well fed and taken care of and even some of the neighborhood furry friends would come to our yard to greet Gary.

The many rides and trips he took with family were wonderful memories. He loved getting his newspapers to read from different places we explored. Gary loved listening to music. The oldies were his favorite, and Elvis Presley was top on his list. Family get together's for the holidays and other occasions were so special to him. He made sure everyone received a special gift at Easter and Christmas. This tradition he carried on from our mother. The Christmas movie specials on TV were never missed because he always called everyone to tell us the time and day it aired.

Gary was the kindest, sweetest, and generous man. Although his physical presence will no longer grace our lives, his spirit will uplift us and inspire us to bless others.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Anthony and Pauline Helen Funaro and brothers, Nicholas Funaro and Gary Rowland. Gary is survived by his brother Peter Gene Funaro and sisters Yvonne (Denny) Groneck, Sheila (Anthony) Roderick, Tina (Ward) Tackett, 14 nieces and nephews, 24 great nieces and nephews, and 17 great great nieces and nephews.

Gary donated his body to science to make an important and lasting contribution to medical and science education. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Memorials can be sent to an animal rescue of choice.
