How can you sum up the life of someone like Gary in a short amount of time? His life can't be measured by words on a page, but he is now getting a glimpse of the impact he had while he was with us.

Gary Dean Garrett entered the world on December 28, 1948. From a toddler until he married, Gary spent every minute he could on the farm with his grandpa, Oran. He was on the farm when Jesus called him home September 1, 2025.

Gary married the love of his life, Naomi, in 1968. Together they raised Carl, Todd, and Joe, attending countless baseball games no matter the distance, watching his athleticism reflected in his boys. He wasn't the loudest fan, but he was definitely their greatest supporter.

Leaving Naomi and Carl to serve his country during the Vietnam war was painful, but he loved his country. After his service, God radically changed him and he enlisted in Heaven's army as a life-time soldier.

He began ministry at Rosedale Church of God Holiness, (KC, KS), followed by Clinton Church of the Nazarene (MO). God then called him to plant the Heartland Church of the Nazarene in his beloved hometown of Fulton where he served until retiring in 2014. God let him have a little time off before opening doors at New Horizons Church in Hallsville, MO where he preached his last sermon three months before he received his final call. Among his welcoming party were his brother, Kevin and father, Harley. Those that he has left behind to feel the tremendous loss are his wife, Naomi, sons Carl (Robin), Todd (Karen), Joe (Megan), grandchildren Carson, Tanner, Easten (Maddie), Eva (Nolan),Harper, Waylon and Creason, mother Fay, siblings Janis (Fred), Kent (Lisa) and Lisa, many nieces and nephews, and scores of lives forever touched by this godly, fun-loving, giant-hearted gentleman.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Tim. 4:7

Gary was a dear friend and my advocate. He stood tall defending me, showing me he was a person deserving of my trust. Not trust expected, but trust earned.

Gary has moved~to the home The Father had prepared~where Gary lived his life to move to. We'll join you later Gary. I have a feeling you'll still tease me in heaven. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter, until then.

Thank You, Lord, for Gary & Naomi!
