Gary W. Gerweck, age 80 of Monroe, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2025 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Ebeid Hospice Center, Sylvania, OH.

Born December 16, 1945 in Monroe, MI, Gary was one of five children of the late William and Lillian (Hasenau) Gerweck. He graduated from Monroe Catholic Central High School in 1964.

Gary honorably served in the United States Army from December 15, 1965 until December 14, 1967 earning the rank of Spec 5. He also served in the Army National Guard, Co A 156 Sig Bn and was honorably discharged on April 16, 1977.

Gary married Mary Ellen Pfund on April 18, 1970 at Zion Lutheran Church.

Gary was employed at the Monroe Plant of Ford Motor Company, retiring on November 1, 2005. He enjoyed football, especially the University of Michigan Wolverines, attending car shows, and watching the many birds at his backyard bird feeders.

Gary was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and UAW Local 723.

Gary is survived by his wife Mary Ellen; his son, Steven (Laura) Gerweck; granddaughter, Ellen; and grandson, Matthew. He also leaves behind two brothers, Charles (Lynn) Gerweck and Gregory (Ann) Gerweck; sister, Linda Gerweck; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his older brother, Thomas J. Gerweck.

Family and friends may visit from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2nd at Bacarella Funeral Home. Gary will lie in state Saturday at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church where services will begin at 11 a.m. Senior Pastor, Rev. Greyson Grenz will officiate, followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by Monroe VFW Post 1138.

For anyone considering making a donation in memory of Gary, the family suggests supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
