Gary Francis Giovengo, age 77 was born on February 14th 1948 in Chicago Heights, IL. Gary passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, August 20th 2025 at 11:31 A.M.

Preceding him in death are his Parents; Paul and Frances Giovengo, Sister in-law; Mary-Alice Giovengo, Niece; Allison, Nephew Jerry Giovengo, Best friend: Bill Genens and his special dog Elizabeth. He is survived by his loving wife Donna of 57 special years, his children; Connie (Cirilo) Sanchez, Tammy (Timothy) Jensen, Gary (Gwen) Giovengo. His twin brother Jerry, special niece; Rebecca (John) Dziuban and special nephew David Giovengo. His grandchildren; Tara (Tyrone), Alicia, Amber (Brandon), Anthony, Brianna (Jonathan), Ryan, Marissa, Matthew, Kyle, Amanda, Makayla, Val and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Gary met the love of his life Donna in the year of 1966. They married April 30th 1968 in a Lutheran Church. He entered into the service in the year of 1968. He toured one year in Vietnam driving the military trucks and came back home in 1970. Gary was awarded The Bronze Star Medal with V Device for heroism in ground combat and he was also awarded The Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service in the Republic of Vietnam.

Gary retired as an auto mechanic of several years. He enjoyed fishing, drag racing, going to the car shows, watching western shows and rodeos. He bonded over fishing with his brother: Jerry and special nephews; Little Jerry and David. Gary also shared a special bond of working on cars with his son: Little Gary, grandsons; Anthony, Matthew, Ryan and Kyle.

Visitation will be held at Hickey Memorial Chapels: 2100 Calistoga Drive New Lenox, IL 60451 from 9am-11am with prayers and readings to follow. Burial will be right after and will be at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery: 20953 W. Hoff Rd Elwood, IL.

They say there is a reason. They say time will heal, neither time or reason will change the way we feel. Gone are the days we used to share. But in my heart, you are always there. The gates of memories will never close; we miss you more than anybody knows. Love and miss you everyday til we meet again. Always and forever.
