Publish in a newspaper

Gary Wayne Heinecke, 74, passed from this world on the evening of Tuesday, February 22, 2022 in Mesa, Arizona. He was born in Logan, Utah on September 8, 1947. He married Norma Bennett on May 4, 1977 in the St. George Temple. They lived in various places but resided in Arizona for a majority of his time in this life.

He was full of gratitude for his family's devoted faith and prayers as they surrounded him during his final moments on earth. Throughout his life he studied the scriptures, developing a strong faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ and testimony of the plan of salvation. He was a strong believer of service to God, Family, & Country. During his early years, Gary earned his Eagle through the scouting program, served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1968 – 1970, and later enlisted in the Airforce for a six-year term, 1972 – 1978.

He valued gaining truth and knowledge out of the best books and always sought to teach his family in the ways of truth and righteousness. He had a talent of adding humor to life, always making those around him laugh. He raised his children to always do a good turn daily, and be prepared. His life was one which exemplified these attributes, passing them to his posterity.

Survived by Norma B. Heinecke, his wife of 44 years and their 8 children: Amy (Nate) West, Allen Wayne, David Ryan, Esther (Anthony) West, Elisabeth (Bret) Engstrom, Benjamin Joseph, Michael Isaiah, and Roy Vance (Camilla Amanda Padget), 20 beautiful Grandchildren (12 Granddaughters, and 8 Grandsons), and his Nieces and Nephews. He is reunited in heaven with his Mother Joyce; Sister Barbara Hanna, Brother Kenneth; Stepfather Erwin Heinecke, Father Wendell Nelson, and many others.

The viewing will be held Thursday, March 3, 2022 5pm-7pm at the Bunker Funeral Home (33 N. Centennial Way Mesa AZ 85201).

I knew Gary before Norma knew Gary. He is my oldest and dearest friend. We met in the Air Force at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas in the 1974-1975 time frame at the end of the Viet Nam War. He worked on the navigation systems and I worked on the communication systems mostly on the F-4 phantom jet. He taught me the gospel of Jesus Christ and baptized me on March 5, 1977. He was one of the most valiant people I ever met. He also introduced me to my wife of 42 years, his cousin, the former Sylvia Brown. To Norma and his children, we love you and mourn with you. Love, Rick and Sylvia.
