Gary Wayne Herdegen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle was born to eternal life October 20, 2023 at the age of 79. He lived in Brookfield, WI for 43 years. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on February 6, 1944, the son of the late Paul and Bessie (Dangerfield) Herdegen.
He is survived by his wife Barbara (Pappas), son Chad McAnally (Siobhan Dugan) son Drew Herdegen (Melody), granddaughter Eileen Nelson (Zach) brother Richard Herdegen (Carole) nieces and nephews.
He was a student at Messer High School, St. Norbert College in DePere, WI where he was in the ROTC Program. He was very involved in his fraternity ADG, making many lifetime friends. After graduating he went into the Army and served as an officer in the signal corp. After his discharge he went into the field of marketing and advertising for 30 years. He later joined BASICS, a non- profit organization serving the inner city. He and Barb met on a blind date and a year later they were married on August 31, 1980. He adopted her son Chad and two years later they had their son Drew. They had 43 wonderful years of marriage.
Gary was a scout leader and loved camping, golfing, watching the Brewers and cheering on the Packers. He belonged to Elmbrook church for 40 years and was very active in the men's ministry and volunteering. He had a love for God and people.
He was very proud of his two boys and their musical talent and the men they have become. His granddaughter Eileen is so special to him along with all his nephews and niece. He loved being with neighbors, friends and family, having many social gatherings, especially at Christmas. His highest priority was serving God, family and friends.
