Gary D. Hickman, 76, of Melrose, New Mexico passed away peacefully in his home on September 29, 2023. Gary was born to Buster and Bee Hickman, on August 16, 1947, in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Gary served in the Marine Corp during Vietnam, he enlisted in 1967 and was honorably discharged in 1973. When he returned, he found the love of his life, Reva Junea Black. They were married in Mexico on December 22, 1970. In 1972, they welcomed their oldest, Lisha Dee followed by Colynn Jo in 1975. In 1999, they welcomed Charles Roy into the family, with his adoption in 2002.
Gary was a cowboy at heart, he may have worked numerous jobs throughout his life, but his love was always ranching. Gary worked at Curry County Road Department and was a master cabinet maker. These jobs provided for him and Junea the opportunity to obtain long-time family land from Junea’s grandfather.
Gary is survived by Junea Hickman of the home, two daughters Lisha and Jared Hill of House, New Mexico, Colynn and Chris Harrison of Morse, Texas and a son Charles Hickman of Melrose, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to Against the Current Youth Center or Saint Jude’s Children Hospital.
