Gary Hugé, 68, of St. Louis, passed away peacefully on February 17th, 2025 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI with his loving family at his bedside.

Gary was born on March 24th, 1956 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Tom and Marjorie Huge. He attended Chaminade High School and met Mary Auffenberg in St. Louis when he was 19 years old. They dated for seven years and were married on May 28th, 1983. Gary and Mary were together for 49 years. They have two children, the joys of his life, Elizabeth and Cannon.

Gary was fun loving and rich in purpose. He was an avid fan of The St. Louis Cardinals, Streblow boats, Chucks, Dave Matthews, and all things Delavan. He valued education and was a lifelong learner. He received his Coast Guard Captain’s License and took business and photography classes well into retirement. Additionally, Gary’s Catholic faith remained unwavering throughout his life, and he attended mass almost daily as a parishioner of St. Peter’s Church and Carmelite Monastery. However at the end of the day, it was the time spent with Mary and his family that brought him the most joy.

Gary treasured his relationships and surrounded himself with the people he loved. He maintained an open door policy in his home, to which family and friends of all ages would stop in frequently. His children’s friends were his friends, and these times spent together were moments he cherished. Gary spent many sunsets at the helm of the Streblow with everyone piled in, arm outstretched on the seat, chuckling at the shenanigans around him. His sense of humor was one for the books: goofy, sometimes outrageous, and always infectious. He was a crowd favorite wherever he went; it was not uncommon to see him at the center of a group, everyone belly laughing. Gary will be sorely missed by all those he has touched.

Gary is survived by his wife and children, along with his son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Marcus and Stacie. “Pops” is forever the proud grandparent of Olivia (13), Lucille (5), Sierra (5), Eloise (3), and Sully (3).

A Funeral Service will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Kirkwood on March 15th, 2025 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Harold Johnson Delavan Food Pantry
