Janet Marie Bennett

Janet Marie Bennett, 78, of Macon, MO, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Macon Health Center.

Janet was born on July 15, 1947, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Oliver and Antoinette (Knobel) Roussin. She was united in marriage to Larry Bennett on February 8, 1969, in Fayette, MO.

Janet was an accomplished pianist and earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Central Methodist University in Fayette. Her career as a piano teacher began early in life and spanned 65 years as she gave piano lessons to countless students, generously passing her talent and appreciation for music to future generations. Her work included accompanying numerous students at music contests, leading the youth choir at First Christian Church, and directing the flag corps for the Macon High School marching band.

She faithfully followed the St. Louis Cardinals, whether attending or listening to games, and also enjoyed cheering on the Mizzou teams and the Olympics. Janet enjoyed watching murder and mystery TV shows and challenged herself with crossword puzzles and reading her many books, sometimes multiple times. She especially loved cats, and she gave generously to animal shelters. Janet especially delighted in finding the perfect card and gift for those she loved, always making others feel remembered and cherished.

Janet is survived by her husband, Larry and three children: Ryan Bennett and his wife Jo Ann Daugherty of Berwyn, IL; Kristin Bennett, her husband Kidron Incle, and their daughter Charlotte Incle, of Kansas City, MO; Brendan Bennett and his wife Meg Hauser of Kansas City, MO; and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral service will be 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the First Christian Church of Macon, MO, with Rev. Christina Haworth officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 1:30 PM, Sunday, until the time of the service, at the church. The family suggests memorials to the Macon First Christian Church, Missouri Bandmasters Association Young Band Director Grant, or Friends of Macon County Missouri Animals.
