Gary Jones Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 4, 2025.
Gary Lee Jones, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on September 2, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Born on April 27, 1946, in Maysville, North Carolina, Gary was the eldest child of Norfleet and Fannie Jones, who preceded him in death, along with his beloved wife, Shirley Jones.

A funeral service to honor Gary's life will be held on September 6, 2025 at Salem Baptist Church in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina at 11:00 am. A private burial will be held later.

Gary spent 43 dedicated years working as an office manager at Maintenance and Facilities at Camp Lejeune, where he was known for his commitment and professionalism. It was there that he met Shirley, with whom he shared many wonderful years.

A man of diverse interests, Gary was an avid fan of the NY Yankees and race car drivers Jeff Gordon and Richard Petty. He enjoyed playing tennis and was passionate about baseball, where he'd spend many Saturdays watching the NY Yankees play with his grandfather or later watching basketball with his best friend Albert. Gary was an NC State fan and Albert was a UCLA fan, but they had the best of times.

Gary was a devoted member of Salem Baptist Church in Sneads Ferry, where he found spiritual fulfillment and community. His faith was an integral part of his life, guiding him through both joyous and challenging times. Gary's life was enriched by the enduring friendships he maintained throughout the years. His childhood friend, Albert Bracey, and best friend, Tom Newton, were like brothers to him. He was blessed with many good friends at Salem Baptist, Riverview Restaurant, Hardees and the Sneads Ferry community.

He is survived by his loving siblings: brothers Terry Jones (wife Judy), Michael Jones (late wife Patricia), Gerald Jones (late wife Carol), and Larry Jones (wife Roxanne); sisters Dodie Kahlert (husband Robert), Mary Jones, and Marilyn Jones. Gary was a proud uncle to Felicia, Josh, Sissy, John Robert, Elizabeth and Jill, and a special grand uncle to Noah, Adyson, and Hailey, along with many other grand nieces and nephews.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Visiting Angels Gentiva Hospice, especially his hospice nurses Jennifer Caroll, Alyssa Weaver, Heather White, and all the other wonderful ladies for their compassionate care and support during Gary's final days.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Gary's memory to his beloved church, Salem Baptist Church or Gentiva Hospice.
