Gary E. Knecht, 81, of Chillicothe, passed from this life on Sunday November 23, 2025 in the Adena Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 10, 1944 in Kingston, OH, the son of Daniel and Esther (Couden) Knecht. On December 13, 1996 he married Joann H. Kiminki who survives.
Also surviving are his children, Christina L. (Knecht) Heslip, Kelly Jo Knecht, Kimberly D. (Knecht) Bates, Amber M. (Knecht) Kuhlmann, Janai M. (Knecht) Meyer, James H. Momb III, Desmond B. Hight, Katherine H. Gibbons, and Krystal H. Houser, 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, a sister, Sharon Bosworth, several loved nieces and nephews, and all his friends on Garden Drive. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brother- in- laws, Mary Lou (Jim) Strawser, and Mona Jean (Bob) Boggs, and a brother and sister-in law, Lewis (Dorothy) Knecht.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Gary served his country with honor and distinction. Gary enjoyed a distinguished career as a comptroller for the Alyeska Pipeline, where he earned numerous awards that reflected his hard work and expertise in the field. He was a member of the High St. Church of Christ and the American Legion Post 757. Outside of work and service, Gary enjoyed playing pool and “twisting wrenches” on the weekends, watching Les Feldick ministries everyday at 3:00 p.m, and listening to gospel music. His true joy, however, came from the time spent with his grandchildren. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held for family and friends on Wednesday December 3, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., following the visitation, miliary honors will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard with the playing of Taps by his cousin Lauren (Larry) Solt in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME. A private burial will be held in Greenlawn Cemetery. An online memorial guestbook is available at www.fawcett-palmer.com.
