Gary Linn Koch

   Gary Linn Koch, born on July 13, 1953, in Bonne Terre, MO, passed away on February 9, 2025. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Gary will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor, his laughter, and his zest for life.

   Gary married the love of his life, Virginia Koch, on February 4, 2017. Together, they shared countless moments of joy and laughter. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, their beloved Basset Hound, Clyde. He leaves behind children Greg (Heather) Koch and their five children of Washington, IA, Lisa (Stephen) Skierka and their eleven children of Chester, MT, Philip (Therese) Koch and their four children of Potosi, MO, Rita West and her two children of Potosi, MO Theresa Koch of Black Eagle, MT, Sister Philomena Marie (Julie Koch) and one stepdaughter, Chasity (Jeremy) Thebeau and their son Avery of Festus, MO; sisters, Karen Meyers and husband Frank of Potosi, MO, Denise Stamos and husband Steve St. Mary’s, KS, Debbie McGuinn and husband Marion of St. Louis, MO; brothers, Kevin Koch and wife Debbie of Potosi, MO, Roger Koch of Potosi, MO in addition to many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

   Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew “Boots” Koch and Clarice (DeGonia) Koch in addition to his brother and sister-in-law, Wayne Koch and wife Phyllis Koch and grandson, Augustine “Gus” Koch.

   Gary graduated from St. Joachim Catholic School in 1972, where his lighthearted spirit first began to shine. After graduation, he began his career as an IBEW Union Lineman, working for 39 years across multiple companies. His dedication and hard work were clear, but it was his personality and sense of humor that truly set him apart. He retired with the respect and admiration of his colleagues, but it was his ability to make everyone laugh that will be remembered most fondly.

   Gary had a deep love for community and was an avid member of several organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Elks. His involvement in these groups brought him joy, as he made lasting connections and contributed to meaningful causes. Gary's generosity, kindness, and willingness to help others were as boundless as his humor.

   An avid deer hunter, Gary eagerly looked forward to deer camp each year, where he was the ultimate spamby chef. It was a time he cherished, surrounded by his wife, family and friends, enjoying the camaraderie and serenity of his family farm.

   Gary was the kind of friend you could always count on. He never met a stranger and had a long list of people who cherished him. His unwavering loyalty and selflessness made him a constant support to those he cared about. Whether lending a hand or offering a listening ear, Gary’s generosity was always felt by those lucky enough to know him. He also had a special fondness for driving his friend’s yellow dump truck, finding satisfaction in the simple joy of the task while helping out his friends.

   Gary had a true passion for working the land and spending time in his shop. He loved taking on projects, often with his brother Kevin by his side, where he’d joke around and boss him a little. He found great joy in working with his Case tractors, tending to the land that was so close to his heart.

   Gary’s laughter, warm heart, and genuine spirit left a lasting impact on everyone he met. Always ready to lend a helping hand, his generosity knew no bounds. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing the truly wonderful man he was.
