Gary Wilbert Konarska
September 18, 1946 – August 31, 2025

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Seungsoon "Sue," his children Micki (John) and Gary (Amanda), and his beloved grandchildren Calvin (Grace), Zachary, Logan, Reagan, and Mia. He also leaves behind his siblings Jerry (Nancy), Carol (Dieter), and Bill (Donna), along with a large and loving extended family of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Gary lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. Born and raised on King Road in Romulus, Michigan, Gary never met a stranger-he was a friend to everyone he encountered. His stories, whether from the farm, the army, the steel mill, or his travels, were always ready to be shared with anyone who asked (and even those who didn't!).

After graduating high school, Gary attended Oakland University before answering the call to serve in the U.S. Army. Though originally bound for Vietnam, fate had other plans-he was rerouted to radio school. While finishing radio school, he pitched a lot of innings of softball in Georgia and eventually got stationed in Seoul, South Korea, where he met Sue. She was already set to attend Michigan State University, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Gary returned to Michigan, earned his civil engineering degree from Wayne State University while working full-time at Great Lakes Steel, and raised two incredible kids. He was a fixture at their games, always making sure to be home in time for tip-off or the first pitch.

In retirement, Gary joined Sue at the travel agency, becoming the go-to admin guy. Together, they explored 65 countries, made countless memories, and spent winters soaking up the sun in Florida. He cherished his annual deer camp and golf trips to Myrtle Beach, and was a proud member of the Clark Lake Lions and the Kiwanis Club.

Whether cheering from the sidelines at his grandkids' games or swapping stories with friends, Gary brought joy, humor, and heart to every moment. He was a devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather, loyal brother, and cherished friend.

Gary's legacy lives on in the laughter of his grandchildren, the stories passed down through generations, and the love he poured into every relationship. His passion for life, baseball, and family will continue to inspire all who knew him.
