Dr. Glenn Meinhardt, born September 19, 1966 in Champaign, Illinois, of Harrison Township, Michigan passed away unexpectedly in the early morning of November 18, 2025. Glenn earned a PhD from Oakland University in Systems Engineering, he also received his Masters and Bachelors Degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale.
In 2000, Glenn relocated from southern Illinois to the Metro Detroit area (Rochester) to accept a role as a Noise, Vibration and Harshness Engineer at American Axle Manufacturing (AAM). In this role, he met his closest friends, David Schankin and Cary Ketelhut.
Glenn met his wife, Jessica (Aggeler) in January of 2004 and they were married on July 9, 2005 in Port Huron, Michigan. Glenn and Jess just celebrated their 20th anniversary this year. In 2007, they welcomed their son Andrew and in 2009, their daughter Emily.
After his role at AAM, Glenn had a short stint at TRW working in Steering Systems, then he moved on to work at General Motors in Systems Engineering. After 8 years of the corporate grind, Glenn took a voluntary separation from GM to pursue his lifelong dream, teaching. Although he previously taught on an adjunct basis at John Logan Community College and Oakland University, he was instantly captivated by his new role as an Assistant Professor at Wayne State University (WSU) which began in the Fall of 2023. At WSU, he taught Statistics and Design in the College of Engineering.
Glenn was a Masonic Brother and most recently the Worshipful Master of Roseville Composite Lodge #499. Prior to his role as Worshipful Master, he held almost all of the other offices within his lodge. Through his current lodge, #499 and his past lodge he acquired many friends and mentored many men. God, family and Masons was his credo. He lived his life according to his deep rooted values and commitments.
Glenn had many hobbies. Some memorable ones included SCUBA, music (playing guitar, and digital music production), woodworking, writing, sketching, painting, reading, riding dirt bikes with his kids and his Harley (Colt), boating and drinking (didn't have to be the finest, he was a humble man) scotches and whiskeys, and smoking cigars and his pipe..just to name a few. His most recent hobby was collecting fountain pens and exchanging handwritten letters with his brother, Edmund. Glenn also enjoyed travelling---both solo and with his wife Jessica. Together they took many trips, from a drive to Canada, a cruise to the Caribbean or Mexico and most recently some trips to Amsterdam, London, Scotland, New York, Chicago, Washington, Seattle and New Orleans. He was an incredibly well-rounded and intelligent man who was never afraid to get his hands dirty.
Glenn is preceded in death by his parents Warren and Joan. He is survived by his brother Leland (Lynn) Meinhardt, Edmund Meinhardt, Laura (Dave) Hazen, his wife Jessica, children Andrew and Emily and 3 precious furbabies – Sarge, Curtis and Lucy. Glenn also leaves behind his nephews Justin (Kyra) Meinhardt, Jason (Kristina) Meinhardt, Joel (Emily) Meinhardt, Spencer Hazen and niece, Morgan Hazen.
In addition to his biological family, Glenn loved being a part of his extended Aggeler and Berger families who welcomed him into their clans.
Glenn's family and friends celebrated his legacy with a memorial luncheon on November 29, 2025. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Kaatz Funeral Directors, Mount Clemens.
