Gary Lynn Kretz, age 75, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, June 20, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan, KS. He was born on March 16, 1950, to his parents, Earl and Naomi (Kappleman) Kretz, at Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier, LA.
As with any military family, his early years were spent moving to places such as Louisiana, Florida, Germany, Texas, and eventually to Salina, KS, where his dad retired from Active Duty as a Chief Master Sergeant.
Gary graduated from Salina High in 1968, attended Fort Hays State and was in the Army Reserves. He spent a good portion of his adult life living in Dallas and Houston, Texas, where he worked for companies such as Revlon, Ralph Lauren Polo and Jos A Banks. He had a passion for clothing, yard work, plants, Beatles music and his Dallas Cowboys.
Eventually, he returned to Kansas, where he enjoyed working part-time at Home Depot, fishing and spending time with his Chocolate Lab Hershey.
Gary is survived by a daughter, Casey (Billy) Wolfrom, Houston, TX; his sons John Michael (Emily) Kretz, Dallas, TX, Gary (Nicole) Kretz, Houston, TX, Jack Savery, Houston, TX; sister Gayle (TJ) Winter, Manhattan, KS; niece Michelle Oetting Sokolov (Greg) Davis, CA niece Sierra Winter Otto (Jeff)Kansas City, MO and 9 beautiful grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice House, in care of Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Ave, Manhattan, KS 66502
