Gary "Duck" N. Lamier, age 87, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
Born January 8, 1939, on the Westside of
Cleveland, Ohio, Gary was the beloved son of Norman and Stephanie (née Luska) Lamier. Raised in Cleveland, he graduated from Lincoln High School where he formed many lifelong friendships and developed the hardworking spirit that would guide him throughout his life.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command as a medic with the 28th Bomb Wing. His time in the service reflected his quiet dedication to helping others and his deep sense of patriotism.
Following his military service, Gary ventured west and made his home in Rapid City in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. It was there that he began a long and successful career in finance with Commercial Credit Corporation. His professional journey later took him to South Bend, Indiana, where he continued his work before joining Credit Investment Trust of New York. Gary's career continued to flourish with Allis-Chalmers Credit Corporation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and later with Deutz-Allis Credit Corporation of Cologne, Germany. His work carried him to many places, but his steady character, strong work ethic, and easygoing nature remained constant wherever he went.
Gary was a life and endowment member of the National Rifle Association and a proud member of American Legion Post 118 in Amherst and the V.F.W. on Kelleys Island. Above all, Gary cherished the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were not simply hobbies to him, but a way of life and a source of great joy. He often shared the sentiment that "to be hunting and fishing was a way of life to be remembered," a reflection of the peace and happiness he found in nature.
Those who knew Gary will remember his warm presence, quiet humor, and the deep love he held for his family.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Barbara Ann (née Logar) Lamier; his brother, Steven Lamier; step-sons Philip (Diane) Pastor and Mark (Tracey) Pastor; and step-daughter Lisa (Phil) Peck. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Kristy (Andrew) Dorer, Ryan (Maddie) Pastor, Markie Pastor, Emily (Mike) Gaal, Melissa Counts, and Amber (Jeremy) Stempowski. Gary was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and a cherished great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Stephanie Lamier, and his sister, Leah Brixey.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst.
