Gary Lockhart Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home - Poland on Jan. 12, 2026.
Gary C. Lockhart, 78, passed away on January 10, 2026 surrounded by his family at home.
He was born on January 19, 1947 in Youngstown, a son to the late Daniel and Betty (McClain) Lockhart. Gary was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he traveled the world on the USS Monrovia and USS Capricornus. After his time in the military, he worked for 30 years at General Motors in Lordstown.
Gary was an amazing husband, a loving father, and a very proud papa. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he never missed a chance to cheer them on with their various activities. If they were involved, Gary was in the audience, cheering them on with a smile that said it all.
He was also known for his sense of humor. Gary loved a good joke and was famous for peppering conversations with them. Laughter followed him wherever he went, and even in tough times, he found a way to lighten the mood. Making people smile was just part of who he was.
Gary enjoyed life's friendly competitions, especially golfing with the Bogey Brothers, playing bocce, and throwing darts. He was just as passionate about his 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass S Rallye 350, which he kept completely original and proudly showed off at car shows, where it won more than a few awards. His talent as an airbrush artist made his love of cars even more special.
He also loved the simple things-working in his garden, sharing his homemade peach brandy, and spending time with the people he loved most. Whether he was telling a joke, tending to his plants, or polishing his Cutlass, Gary had a way of making everyday moments feel a little brighter.
Gary leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, the former Patricia Huff; his children, Betty (Shawn) Fleps and Michael Lockhart; grandchildren, Cameryn Stevenson and Chloe Fleps; great-granddaughter, Autumn; as well as many nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ashley Lockhart; brother, Leslie Lockhart; sister, Sheri Black; and maternal grandparents, Harry & Thelma McClain.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, January 15, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life beginning at 6:00 p.m., where military honors will be rendered for his service to our country.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tara and Stacy and all the staff at Patriot Hospice for their compassionate care of Gary in his time of need. It is so greatly appreciated.
