Gary Wayne Meyer went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2024. Born on July 17, 1958, in Richmond, Texas, he was the son of Gilbert Meyer and Dorothy (Meyer) Abel. Gary grew up on a farm and developed a passion for agriculture that would last a lifetime.
Gary is survived by his mother and siblings: Suzanne Mullins and her husband Rob of Boling, TX; Glenn Meyer of Wallis, TX; and Renee McCrea and her husband Scott of Lantana, TX. He was a devoted father to his son, Justin Meyer, and his wife, Katie, of Damon, TX. Gary cherished his three grandchildren, Blaine, Case, and Cash. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary graduated from Needville High School in 1976 and went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree in agriculture at Sam Houston State University. At the age of 30, while living and working on a ranch in New Mexico, he was involved in a car accident that left him disabled. Despite this life-altering event, Gary demonstrated incredible resilience and lived a fulfilling life. He worked at the family business, Schultz Brothers Trucking and farmed alongside his brother, Glenn, and son, Justin. Over the years he served on the FSA Board and was a current board member for Farm Bureau. Two of his greatest joys in life were tending to his cows and watching his grandsons play baseball.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Meyer and his stepfather, Allan Abel.
The family would like to thank the numerous people who helped care for Gary over the past 36 years, most recently Linda, Karen, Cathy and Chris. Also to thank are family members Sterling, Christina, Lance, Calvin, and LaNette Schultz who provided loving care.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Tuesday June 4th from 9:30 – 11 am at Needville Global Methodist Church 8602 Church St, Needville, TX. His funeral service will begin at 11 am. Immediately after the service, all are invited to join the family for light refreshments at the church hall. A procession to the cemetery will leave the church at 1:30 pm.
