Gary Louis Moser born February 20, 1951 to Otto and Juanita (Fife) Moser, In Idaho falls Idaho. Gary was one of three children.
Gary lived a very full life. He was always busy. He had a natural curiosity about the world and people.
Gary had a powerful work ethic. He started working at the age of 12 at the McKay seed potato farm in Grant Idaho until the age of 18. From there he went to work at the Golden Valley Pack, all the while gazing to the mountains of the north, The Bitter Root range. Gary Graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1969.
Gary had a friend whose brother-in-law purchased a river running outfit in Salmon, Idaho called Idaho Adventures. In 1973, at the age of 22, Gary came to the Lemhi Valley and became one of their very first river guides.
After that, Gary's work life revolved around the seasons. In the fall, he fished for steelhead, became a jet boat captain on the Main Salmon River from Com Creek to Artie Creek. He also worked for Peck's Ponderosa on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. He was a hunting guide and packer.
In 1986 Gary met his amazing wife Paula at Lost Trail ski area. She was his equal in many ways and a grounding balance in his life. She was a talented fisherwoman, fearless boatwoman, and knows every creek from Leadore to Missoula. It was only fitting his wife would be beautiful, talented, graceful and just as feisty as he was. They married on September 25th, 1987 and together they embarked on the next 3 7 years of dedicated partnership and stewardship of the land.
Gary maintained his work routine until 1990 when he and Paula Purchased Idaho Adventures and became not only the outfitters, but guided almost every trip.
During the winter, Gary and Paula were on Pro Patrol at Lost Trail ski area. Gary enjoyed 45 years as a patroller until a hip replacement ended his skiing career in 2010. Gary was a Salmon EMT in 1990 and maintained that until 2014.
In 1993 he started his Wild land Fire career as an EMT and became a MEDL, incident medical specialist and a Med Leader for region 1 incident management team.
Gary loved all animals and was a dedicated Chesapeake Bay Retriever dad. He had some of the most loyal, loving and tender relationships with 9 Chessie's spanning 51 yrs.
Gary had an adventurous soul. He loved to hunt and reload. He was an avid and very capable fisherman. He loved old dodge trucks. He spent many hours/years' rebuilding a 1963 Dodge power wagon, it was fleet yellow and he fondly named it "Congo" in his good buddy Layne's shop.
His number one love was the blue waters of the Oceans. He had 163 dives, ''Not bad for an old spud." Diving took him and Paula to coast lines near and far, including the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Micronesia, Belize and New Zealand. If he wasn't chasing adventures, you could find him reading a good book.
Gary is Proceeded in death by his parents Otto and Juanita. Gary is survived by his loving wife Paula, God Daughter Jenifer Harvey Stroud (Steve), their Children Cy (18) and Wren (15) of Boise Idaho. His siblings Darlene Rasmussen (Steven) of Centerville Utah, Judy Taylor (Dennis) of Sugar Grove. Illinois.
