Gary Mullarkey passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born September 6th, 1936 in Iowa to Earl and Edith Mullarkey, Gary proudly served his country in the United States Air Force following high school. After his military service, he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling.
Gary dedicated his career to helping others, first at the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and later at Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin, where he served as Vice President. His work touched countless lives, forged lifelong friendships, and, most importantly, led him to the love of his life, Charlene (Charlie). Gary's compassion extended far beyond his career. He had a passion for photography, a love of travel, a lifelong curiosity, and an appreciation for Wisconsin sports. He was always eager to learn something new and lend a helping hand. Family meant everything to Gary, especially his wife Charlie. The love he had for his family was second to none, and he was always there to support them in any way possible.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Edith; his brother, James (Jim); sister-in-law, Joan; brother-in-law, Carl; and beloved wife, Charlene (Charlie).
Gary is survived by his daughters Debbie Burns, Julie (Dan) Rice, and Michelle (Todd) Schmolesky; grandchildren Adam, Ryan (Brittany), Hannah (Bryce), Micaela, Jamie, Caitlyn, and Rylie; sister Joyce; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt thank you to the staff at St. Rita's Square Assisted Living and the Milwaukee VA for their care and kindness.
Services will be held at Holy Rosary Church 2011 N. Oakland Ave. on June 19Visitation 10:00am – 11:30am with Funeral Mass at 11:30 am
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Three Holy Women Parish. In Gary's memory, consider buying a meal for someone in need, donating to a children's charity, or adopting a family during the holidays-simple acts of kindness that reflect the way he lived his life.
