Gary L. Nichols Gary L. Nichols, 80, Newport, OH, passed away Monday, August 4, 2025 at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Born in Clarksburg, WV, on July 27, 1945, he was the son of the late Clyde and Ramona Jean Kelley Nichols. He was a 1963 graduate of St. Marys High School. He played baseball, loved to fish and hunt and being outdoors. He started his career with W.A. Wilson and from there worked for Ace Wilson, and Greenlees Construction. Gary later retired from Frontier Construction. He was a natural handyman – able to fix or build nearly anything with ease. A devoted member of the Dewey Avenue Church of Christ, his faith guided every aspect of his life. He never met a stranger; his kindness knew no bounds. Helping others came naturally to him – he'd literally give the shirt off his back without hesitation. With a heart full of humor, he kept people smiling with his endless jokes. He was a true peacemaker, always seeking harmony. More than anything, he embodied the commandment to 'love thy neighbor' – he lived it every single day. One of life's greatest blessings came in the form of a lung transplant he affectionately called "Hank", which gave us almost 13 unforgettable years with him. He is survived by the love of his life, of 60 years, Patricia "Pat" Lamp Nichols; two daughters, Connie (Johnny) Binegar, and Cindy (Randy) McCoy; four grandchildren Victoria (Nathan) Booth, Olivia (Brandon) Elliott, and Kenton and Garrett McCoy; and four great-grandchildren, Brody and Emma Booth, and Colten and Evelyn Elliott; two brothers, Fred Nichols (Carol) and Roger "Bub" (Cindy) Nichols; one sister, Barbara Cornell; one sister-in-law Ina Nichols. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dale Nichols and Bruce Nichols; one sister-in-law, Betty Nichols. Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 8, 2025, at 11 A. M. at Dewey Avenue Church of Christ, St. Marys, WV, with Lloyd Westbrook and Dale Parsley officiating. Interment will be in the Newport Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 P. M. Thursday at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, WV and from 10 to 11 A.M. Friday at the church.
