Gary Ortner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pitman Funeral Homes & Cremation Services - Wentzville Chapel on Dec. 10, 2025.
Gary W. Ortner, 79, of Wentzville, Missouri, passed away on December 10, 2025. Born on August 26, 1946, to Glen Elvin and Vivina Irene (McWhinnie) Ortner, Gary lived a full and meaningful life centered around faith, family, and hard work.

Gary was a devoted member of Wentzville Christian Church, where he found community, purpose, and great joy. He was also a proud member of IBEW Local 134 in Chicago, Illinois, dedicating over 27 years to his trade.

A lover of the outdoors, Gary built a family cabin near Hannibal where many cherished memories were made. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and in earlier years, taking the family on tent-camping trips. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan and could often be found cheering on his team. Known for his knack for fixing anything, Gary was incredibly handy and always willing to lend a helping hand.

Above all, Gary treasured his family. Time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought him the greatest joy.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Alice (Koos) Ortner; his children, Nathan Ortner, Cathy Ortner, and Jeff Ortner; his brother, Rick Ortner; his sister, Linda Buzay, his grandchildren, Ashley, Cale, Maggie, Spencer, and Logan; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen Elvin Ortner and Vivina Irene (McWhinnie) Ortner, and his brother, Greg Ortner.

Gary will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
