It is with deep sadness that the family of Daniel J. Ortner, 66 of Pittsville WI announces his passing on Monday May 5th, 2025. Daniel was the first-born son of Justin and Marilyn Ortner, born August 22, 1958, in Spencer IA. The family packed up and moved north to Pittsville WI in 1963 where they made roots by establishing the family farm. He graduated from Pittsville High School and married the love of his life Lori on June 14th, 1980. Together they raised 3 hard-working boys, Ryan, Kevin, and Jason as Dan continued farming, eventually taking part ownership interest in the family business. Their greatest blessings call them grandma and grandpa, 9 grandchildren ranging in age from 3 to 26 years old.
Daniel lived each day to farm, it was his true passion. A hands-on approach to daily work life on the farm allowed him to fix, fabricate, and maintain many projects and equipment. Daniel enjoyed sharing his time, talents, skills and knowledge with family, friends, neighbors, and farmers alike. You could always count on him to be there if help was needed.
During his spare time Dan loved to hunt, trap, ride four-wheelers, spend time with his grandchildren, and pursue his love of bird watching.
Dan is survived by his wife Lori Ortner and their three sons: Ryan (Morgan) Ortner of Pittsville, Kevin (Rachel) Ortner of Pittsville, and Jason (Laura) Ortner of Olathe, KS. He is further survived by nine grandchildren: Damien, Savanna, Brody, Ava, Owen, Eliza, Madison, Jackson, and Cooper; and thirteen siblings: Peggy (Dave) Rademan, Ellen Ipsan, Kathy (Terry) Poehnelt, Sue (Jeff) Masephol, Lorraine (Jim) Blake, Joe (Marcella) Ortner, Theresa (Mike) Schiller, Lawrence (Lisa) Ortner, Mary (Sam) Neve, Linda (Bob) Bollig, Matthew (Lisa) Ortner, Michael (Amy) Ortner, and Beth (Andy) Beltran.
His is preceded in death by his parents Justin & Marilyn Ortner, his in-laws Walter & Anna Lea, and sister-in-law Sharon (Alvin) Warzynski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, May 12, 2025 at St. Joachim Catholic Church, Pittsville. Father Nathan will officiate. Music will be provided by Lois Kremer. Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews: Bryan Masephol, Jon Poehnelt, Colton Ortner, Trayson Ortner, Marcus Schiller, and Charles Bollig. Visitations will be 4-9pm Sunday, May 11th at Buchanan/Rembs Funeral Home in Pittsville, and from 10am until service time at the church on Monday. The service will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes
