Gary Parlet

Gary Parlet, 78, of Oskaloosa, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Adventist Medical Center in Portland, Oregon.
Gary Parlet, son of Don and Betty (Binns) Parlet, was born July 9, 1945, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Gary graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1963; after graduating from high school, Gary attended William Penn University in Oskaloosa and served four years in the Navy. After the Navy, Gary lived in Hawaii, Oahu, and Maui, where he worked for many years as a jeweler and then as a certified nurse aide. Gary moved to Oregon to continue working as a certified nurse aide and then returned to Oskaloosa to care for his father until 2017. Upon his father's passing, Gary later returned to Oregon to continue his role as a caregiver. Gary enjoyed attending the Iowa State Fair, the Southern Iowa Junk Jaunt, and an occasional flea market where he would find countless treasures.
Gary's family includes his daughter, Eugenia Parlet of Honolulu, Hawaii; two grandchildren, Adam and Ashley of Honolulu, Hawaii; and Hanai family in Oregon, Wendy and Neil Dixon.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Wendi Parlet of Honolulu, Hawaii, and his Hanai son, Michael Taylor Dixon of Boring, Oregon.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa, with Pastor Shawn Ott of Cedar Community Church officiating. Military Honor will be presented by the VFW Post #775 and American Legion Post #3 Honor Guard. Memorial contributions can be made to The Muscular Dystrophy Association. Langkamp Funeral Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with Gary's arrangements.
