David Parlet Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Home, Bellville Butler Chapel on Sep. 3, 2024.
BELLVILLE: David R. Parlet, 81, of Mansfield, passed away, Sunday, September 1, 2024 in Riverside Methodist Hospital following an extended illness.
The son of Rolla and Letha (Bullock) Parlet, Dave was born November 11, 1942 in Columbus. A standout basketball player for the Butler varsity basketball team, Dave graduated in 1960. Just a few months following his high school graduation, on July 20, 1960, Dave enlisted in the United States Navy. While in the military, Dave played for the Navy basketball team. He also served in Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was honorably discharged on August 23, 1963.
Following his military service and returning back home to Butler, Dave met Cynthia Alexander-Bruce. The two married on August 7, 1965. Dave enjoyed a successful career in the computer and technology industry, building on skills which he acquired while serving in the Navy. Dave worked as a computer consultant for numerous companies. At one point he held the title of Chief Information Officer prior to his retirement in 2001.
Dave's love of golf was unmatched. As a teenager he caddied at Westbrook Country Club and from that point forward his interest only grew. He was the secretary of the American Legion Gold League. Dave won numerous golfing championships and even shot 4 holes in one! He enjoyed the many golfing friendships established over the years. If Dave wasn't golfing he'd prefer to be at the beach surrounded by his family.
Dave was a member of Diamond Hill Cathedral where he served as former usher and sang. He enjoyed country gospel music and even wrote his own songs. Dave served on the Butler Village Council for 7 years, 4 of which as President.
A member of the American Legion Post #535, Dave proudly served on the funeral detail, participating in numerous military honor services for fellow veterans.
A loving and caring husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and friend. Dave will be missed by his family and friends.
Dave is survived by his wife Cynthia Parlet; children Doug (Jennifer) Parlet, Dustin (Justine) Parlet, and Beckie Parlet; two grandchildren Mason and Sedona Parlet; as well as his special niece Debbie (Kirk) Wisenbarger as well as numerous nieces and nephews; special friends Earl Nedrow, Carl Looney, a large circle of golfing buddies and his McDonalds breakfast group.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Jo Ellen Chesser.
In Dave Parlet fashion, and not wanting to draw any extra attention to himself, per his request, there will be no public services. Private burial services will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery. The Bellville Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the Parlet family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children Hospital, 1404 Goodale Blvd., Suite 200, Columbus, Ohio 43212.
