Gary Lee Pete

Gary L. Pete, 77, of Fairview Park, Ohio, passed away at home on December 24, 2025. Born on October 3, 1948, and raised in Amherst, Ohio, Gary was a man defined by his eye for detail, his quiet kindness, and his profound commitment to his family.

A standout athlete in his youth, Gary ran for the Marion L. Steele High School Cross Country team. He went on to graduate from Kent State University with a degree in Architecture, a field that blended his precision and creativity. Over a long and dedicated career, Gary rose to become Vice President for the George S. Rider Company. He took great pride in his work, contributing to the design and infrastructure of essential community spaces, including numerous post offices and hospitals.

Gary was a devoted father who cherished the family road trips taken throughout his children's youth to explore the country and visit his beloved brother, Dale. These journeys reflected a lifelong appreciation for the National Parks and the beauty of travel. He also enjoyed visiting wineries and had a deep love for Christmas, a season that matched his generous spirit.

Gary possessed a rare, innate kindness that animals recognized instantly. He was a true dog magnet; a friend to every dog in his neighborhood, he knew each one by name. He shared a legendary bond with his "grand-dogs" Chili, Helo, Athena, Camo, Moby, and Lily, and was a faithful companion to his dear cat, Bella.

Gary is survived by his brother and best friend, Dale Pete of San Jose, CA, and his children: Andy Pete of Coventry, RI; Cheryl Pete; and Andrew Pursley, both of Rocky River, OH. He also leaves behind a close-knit circle of friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy Pete Jr. and Mary (Berger) Pete, and his brother, Terry Lee Pete.

Gary will be remembered as a hard-working, dedicated man, a caring brother, and a father who took great joy in sharing the world with his children.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

A memorial luncheon will be held on Saturday January 17 from 12:30-2:30 in honor of Gary at Behind the Woods, The Woods Restaurant & Lounge
