Gary William Pfeifer, 83, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born to the late Frederick and Virginia Pfeifer in Springfield, Illinois. Gary was pre-deceased by his late wife and love of his life, Judith Pfeifer in 2015, and loving daughter, Beth Brand of Lively, Virginia. He is survived by his sons, Michael and his wife, Suzanne Pfeifer of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Gregory Pfeifer of Chesapeake, Virginia. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Benjamin, Robert, Brenna, Aiden, Page, and Aisling Pfeifer and his son-in-law, Kevin Brand of Lively, Virginia.
Gary was a 1963 graduate of the Air Force Academy and proudly served as a pilot and logistics support for 23 years in the Air Force, retiring in 1986. After Air Force retirement, he continued an additional 19 years as a government contractor in the Pentagon. Gary and Judy retired to Chesapeake, Virginia in 2005 and were active members of St. Stephen, Martyr Catholic Church since coming to Chesapeake. Gary was active in the funeral ministry and served as a lector and head lector for many years at St. Stephens.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on November 7th at St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church in Chesapeake. The family will receive friends at the Chesapeake Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Wednesday evening November 6th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Gary had a wonderfully deep, resonating voice. Combined with his talent for reading and articulating the Word of the Lord with an actor's skill, I so enjoyed listening to him at the ambo at church, or during our Bible study sessions.
