Gary Lee Pickron, born on November 22, 1945, in San Diego, California, passed away on December 28, 2024, in Harrison, Arkansas. He grew up in Alabama, where he fondly remembered his father and the mornings filled with his mother's homemade biscuits and gravy. Gary moved with his family to Alpena, Arkansas, before eventually settling in California, where he met the love of his life, Ginger. They shared 46 wonderful years of marriage.
Gary retired after 26 years of dedicated service at Tankinetics. He was a passionate outdoorsman, particularly enjoying hunting and bow hunting. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his enthusiasm for cooking, where he often prepared an abundance of food, especially tacos, chili, and his famous chicken and dumplings. Gary had a special fondness for buffets, relishing the opportunity to bring home leftovers for his beloved dog, Fudge.
In his leisure time, Gary enjoyed watching hunting videos, westerns, and political talk shows. He was an avid listener of country music, with Johnny Cash being his favorite artist, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy Freddy Hart's "Easy Loving." He had a vast collection of DVDs and took great joy in exploring YouTube, always planning new activities and projects.
Gary was known for his warm-hearted nature and his knack for hospitality, often cooking far more than was needed. His favorite place in the world was Walmart, where he enjoyed spending time, whether shopping after work or simply browsing.
He is remembered for his saying, "More money, less hours," a reflection of his cheerful outlook on life. Gary Lee Pickron will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will cherish the memories of his extraordinary life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grover Pickron; and his mother and stepfather, Tennie and Bob Moore.
Survivors include his wife, Ginger Pickron; two daughters, Gaylene Vermeulen and husband, Richard, and Brenda Strong and husband, Steven; one son, Steven Schlueter and wife, Karen; six grandchildren, Richard Pickron and wife, Samantha, William Wright and wife, Tanya, Brian Bernadel, Nathan Ringler and wife, Angel, Jeremiah Ringler, and Amber Irwin; eight great grandchildren, Preston, Landon, Maci, Corbin, Aria, Astrid, and Braiden; one brother, Tex Pickron; two sisters, Mary Ann Thompson and Deborah Jean Mitchel and husband, Mark; and a host of other family and friends.
A graveside service will be on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Capps Cemetery. Curtis Brundridge will officiate. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Arrangements are under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison.
