Gary W. Poupore

Gary Walter Poupore, age 79 passed away unexpectedly on July 9, 2023 at his home in Sagola, MI after a short battle with cancer.
Gary was born April 28, 1944 in Iron Mountain, Michigan to his parents Walter and Lucille (Coombs) Poupore. He was a 1962 graduate of Kingsford High School.
On July 13, 1968, Gary married Donna (Peterson). They resided in Kingsford until they retired and relocated to Sagola where they enjoyed "life on the 40". Donna preceded him in death in 2019.
In his leisure time, Gary loved being in the woods. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to family or neighbors in need and spent many hours building or remodeling houses, fixing cars, cutting wood or doing whatever needed to be done.
Gary leaves behind 3 stepchildren; Jeff (Kimberly) Polkinghorne, Julie (Kevan) Klingberg, and Jim Polkinghorne (Gwen Goffard). He was also a grandfather and great-grandfather. His role as a grandfather brought him immense joy, and he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren Erin Polkinghorne, Amanda (Youssef) Mouttaki, Ashley (Anthony) Bibbo, Jennifer Polkinghorne (Everette Cosmutto), Jordan Polkinghorne, Nic Wilbur, and Cheyne Wilber (Ashly Nelson). In addition, Gary felt exceptionally blessed to be PAPA to his great-grandchildren Oliver Polkinghorne, Mikhail, Khalil and Adam Mouttaki, Jamison Brown, Bowie Glass, Rosalie Bibbo, Aviana and Elara Wilbur who will all miss him greatly. Gary is also survived by his siblings Pamela Cuggino and Roger (Sue) Poupore along with their families. In addition to Donna, he was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lucille and his brother-in-law, Larry Cuggino.
The family would like to recognize dear friends of Gary: Carl and Bonnie Johnson and family, Nick & Julie Johnson and daughter, and Eugene Peterson. A special thank you also to the entire staff at the Marshfield Clinic - Dickinson County Oncology Department for their kind, compassionate and excellent care over the past 3 months.
Gary will be remembered for his kind heart and the profound impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to those close to him.
There will be no memorial services and a private family burial will be held at a later date.
