Gary Reed Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Southern Utah Mortuary - Cedar City on Feb. 17, 2026.
Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, father-in-law, and uncle Gary D. Reed passed away peacefully at home in Cedar City, Utah, surrounded by his beloved family on Saturday February 14, 2026. He was born in Park City, Utah on August 15, 1943, to William Lewis and Elizabeth Joan Neil Reed. He married Linda Lee Wheelwright on November 23, 1963, in Park City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Salt Lake City before making their home in Cedar City, Utah, since 1976.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed his service as a Ward Clerk throughout the years. Gary was proud of his career working as an Electronic Technician for the Federal Aviation Administration for 33 years and 9 months before retiring on December 31, 1999.

He enjoyed skiing and worked for the Treasure Mountain Resort beginning in 1963 and later the Park City Resort ski patrol where he served as the director of training for 8 years and was awarded Outstanding Patrolman in 1972. He was an avid motorcyclist and hunter. He was particularly fond of pheasant hunting in Utah County in his younger years. In his later years he enjoyed reading, especially books written by Clive Cussler.

He is survived by his daughters Ronda (Jerry) Johnson and Tammy (Ryan) Orton; grand-children Tymesia (Scott) Mackelprang, Dallas (Ashlee) Johnson, Hunter Orton (Draik), Emmy (Dillon) Bradshaw, and Bridger Orton; great-grandchildren Boden and Rustyn Mackelprang, Hadlee and Henlee Johnson, Khloee and Harlee Johnson, Rhyan Hayden; brother William John (Patsy) Reed, sister Bonnie Jean (George) Leatham; sisters-in-law Mary Lou Toly and Pamela Wheelwright; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart of 63 years Linda Lee Wheelwright Reed, who came calling for him this Valentines Day. His daughter, Levi Lynn Reed, son-in-law Ryan Orton, sister-in-law Charlotte Frantz, brother-in-law Gary Frantz, brother Robert Reed, sister-in-law Janet Reed, 2 nephews Mike Reed, Brad Frantz, parents and parents-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Cedar North Stake Center (95 N. 2125 W., Cedar City, UT). A viewing will be held at the church, prior to the service, from 9:00 am - 10:30 am. Interment will be at Parowan City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
