Funeral services for Mr. Gary Lee Sandell, Sr. will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Pine Ridge Baptist Church, Melder, with Reverends Jason Townley and Calvin Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in Peniel Cemetery, Glenmora, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Mr. Sandell, 62, of Elmer, entered eternal rest on Saturday, November 29, 2025, in his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He found pleasure in the outdoors, hunting, running dogs, trapping, and taking care of his animals. He also loved gardening and tending to his yard. Gary was proud to serve as president of the Calcasieu Hunting Club and cherished the friends he made there. His family was his greatest joy, and he loved spending quality time with his five grandsons. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Amanda Lynn Sandell; his father, Floyd Sandell; and his siblings, Ray, Frank, Myrtle, Mildred, Helen, Ena, Irene, Louise, and Grady.
Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include his loving wife of forty-two years, Maggie Sandell of Elmer; one son, Gary Lee Sandell, Jr. (Jessica) of Glenmora; two daughters, Krystal Guillot of Elmer, and Lacey Johnson of Elmer; his mother, Arlene Sandell; one sister, Brenda Thompson of Glenmora; and five grandsons, Gavin Sandell, Corbin Sandell, Hunter Holt, Jase Guillot, and Keaton Sandell.
A time of visitation will be held at Pine Ridge Baptist Church, Melder, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Gavin Sandell, Hunter Holt, Russell NesSmith, Jason Fails, Trampus Daniels, and Mark Morrison. Honorary pallbearers will be Corbin Sandell, Jase Guillot, Keaton Sandell, Bob Denny, Jessie Terrell, Wyman Terrell, Bobbie Bynog, and Jody Holt.
