GARY L. SCAGGS

Mr. Gary Scaggs of Okawville, IL departed this life in the Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, IL on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 7:32 P.M. He had attained the age of 83 years and 10 days.

Gary was born in St. Louis, MO on January 24, 1943, the son of William and Shirley (nee Gilliland) Scaggs. He was united in marriage to Patricia Miller in St. Louis on October 20, 1967, and she survives his passing.

Mr. Scaggs was raised in the Catholic faith. He served for six years in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on February 23, 1967, having attained the rank of Sergeant. Gary worked for the P.D. George Company in St. Louis for many years. After leaving P.D. George, Gary was known as Okawville's very own handyman. He did various odd jobs for many people in the Okawville area over the years. Gary was a member of VFW Post 5596 in Okawville. He enjoyed fishing and hanging out at Heskat's clubhouse. He was also known for enjoying a frosty cold beer or two with friends.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife Patricia Scaggs of Okawville; his mother, Shirley Scaggs of Melbourne, FL; two daughters, Sharon McFeron and husband Darrin of Nashville, IL and Julie Unruh and husband Jim of Peoria, IL; four grandchildren, Holly and Ryan Kachuba and Ryley and Allyson Unruh; a brother, William Scaggs Jr. of Missouri, as well as a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be held at the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 4 P.M. until 7 P.M. At the conclusion of the visitation, miliary rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 233 of Okawville. Following the visitation, cremation will be performed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family of Gary Scaggs and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
