Gary G. Schave, age 87 of Port Hope, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Meadow Lane Assisted Living, under hospice care.
He was born on July 5, 1938 in Port Hope, to the late Floyd and Frieda (Schubring) Schave. Gary served in the US Navy Seabees from 1957-1961.Gary and Joyce Reinke were united in marriage on September 11, 1971 in Port Hope. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2005. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Port Hope. Gary loved farming, and farmed his whole life. He could do just about anything that he needed to do. He was also an avid Detroit sports fan, cheering on the Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings anytime he could.
Gary is survived by his brother and sisters-in-law, Janet Schave of Port Hope, Nancy Schave of New York, Linda Schave of Port Hope, Larry (Kathie) Reinke of Port Hope, Betty (Herb) Leese of Port Hope, Ramona Reinke of Port Hope, Susan Reinke of Port Hope, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth Schave, Robert Schave, and Donald Schave.
Funeral Services for Gary will be Monday, December 29, 2025 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, with Rev. Matthew Durance officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation for Gary will be at the church on Monday, from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach.
