It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Lynn Shaw, on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the age of 72 at his residence in
Keyser, WV.
Gary was born on April 16, 1952, in
Keyser, WV, to the late Wayne William Shaw and Dorothy M. (Blackburn) Shaw. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Myers; a granddaughter, Miranda Niland; a brother-in-law, Larry Dixon and his mother-in-law, Laura "Susie" Rohrbaugh.
Gary was a devoted husband of 14 years to his beloved wife Mary Jane (Rohrbaugh) Shaw. He was a dedicated father to his children: Jason Shaw and wife Misty of Bruceton Mills, WV, Lisa McIntyre of Martinsburg, WV, Jeff Shaw and wife Micah of Montgomery City, MO, Tonya Mongold and husband Mike of
Burlington, WV, Mandy Graves and husband Troy of Keyser and Jake Hartman and his significant other Kayla of Antioch, WV. Gary cherished his relationships with his grandchildren, Bailey, Lexy, Hailey, Gabe, Mikey, Mason, Jacob, Kirsten and Veronica and his two great grandchildren, Caiden and Noah. He is also survived by two brothers, David Shaw and wife Debbie and Aaron Shaw and wife Darla, all of Keyser; his sister, Bonnie Dixon of Arnold, MD; a brother-in-law, Mike Myers of Fort Ashby, WV; best friends, Karen and Brian Wilt of Keyser; numerous other friends and extended family members and his special canine companion, "Maddie."
A 1970 graduate of Keyser High School, Gary led a fulfilling career path, working at Penn Ventilator, Comcast, and retiring from Mitch's Auto Body Shop. He was an enthusiastic fan of the WVU Mountaineers and Keyser High School football teams, having played on the Keyser High School football team that secured the WV State Championship in 1969 and was inducted into the KHS Athletic Hall of Fame.
Gary was a respected member of his community, having served in the WV Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was also a devoted member of Lodge #662, Loyal Order of Moose in Keyser. A familiar face at the Chat-N-Chew Restaurant in McCoole, MD, Gary was known for his friendly demeanor and warm presence, always ready to strike up a conversation with anyone.
His exceptional personal traits, including kindness, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family, made Gary a cherished figure in the lives of all who knew him. His dedication to his country, community, and family will be remembered fondly by those whose lives he touched.
Visitation to pay respects to Gary will be held at Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will take place in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Bonnie Dixon officiating. Entombment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Keyser, with military honors.
