Gary Warren Simnitt, age 76 of Leonardville, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.
He was born on March 27, 1946 in Manhattan, the son of Warren William and Mae C. (Haller) Simnitt.
On September 4, 1970, he married Margie Williams. They later divorced.
Gary was a maintenance supervisor for Kansas State Wildlife and Parks. He immensely enjoyed fishing and if you couldn’t find him, he was usually on a bank with his fishing pole. He even smelted his own lead for fishing weights and anchors.
He is survived by one son, Wade Simnitt and wife Shaylee of Clay Center; one daughter Chris Ricker and husband Josh of Leonardville; five sisters, Linda Webber of Riley, Rhonda Wege and husband Tim of Leonardville, Sandy Johnson and husband Chuck of Manhattan, Tammi Heitman and husband Don of Palmer and Sheila Jennings and husband Kerry of Riley; four grandchildren, Kasey Malec (Amber), Keegan Simnitt, Treston Ricker and Tatum Ricker and one grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, John Webber.
Cremation is planned with private family graveside services at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Gary Simnitt Memorial Fund and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
