Gary Mark Smith

Gary Mark Smith was born to Lucius and Vivian Smith on June 28, 1961, in Gary, Indiana. He was the youngest of 8 children and attended Lincoln Elementary School in Gary, Indiana. During the early 70s, the family relocated to Michigan, where Gary continued his education within Bangor Public Schools until his graduation in 1979. In high school, Gary participated in multiple sports, particularly Basketball.
He continued his education at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, obtaining Computer Programming and Repair degrees. During his college tenure, Gary was also a member of the AIPT (Association of Information Technology) program and a member of the National Honor Society, Alpha Rho Nu Phi Theta Kappa.
Gary was always an ambitious employee, sustaining long-term employment at Tower Automotive in 1985 and working part-time with G.M. for several months. He worked at Tower Automotive until the company closed in 2001. He later gained employment at Pfizer, where he worked until his illness. Gary attended every scheduled workday for 39+ years of occupation between Tower Automotive and Pfizer!
Gary met the Love of his life, Delorse Evans, in 1985. The couple married on July 1, 1995, and their combined family comprised of three children.
Gary's passions included videography. He had a registered D.B.A. under the proprietary G.M.S. Digital. His business ventures consisted of weddings and special projects for Pfizer. He had an affinity for automobiles and was fortunate to obtain 2 of his dream cars, a 1986 Iroc-Z and a Cadillac Escalade. In addition, he was passionate about watching sports, particularly U of M football and the Detroit Lions. In his spare time, Gary enjoyed renovating his home.
Gary transitioned from this life on September 21, with his wife Delorse, brother Barry, and sister-in-law Jackie by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucius III and Vivian Smith, sister Helen Smith, and Mother-in-law, Sallie Evans.
Gary leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Delorse Evans-Smith, three children, Lisa (James) Varnesdeel of Texas, Gary Smith Jr. of Iowa, and Septuri Uhurubey, aka (Ken), of Florida, and five grandchildren. Siblings: Greta (Dave) Aartila, Lucius (Yvette) Smith, Leo Smith, Allen (Anita) Smith, Vivian Smith, Barry (Jackie) Smith. Brother & Sisters-in-law, Mae Taylor, A.T. (Naomi) Evans, James (Mary Alice) Evans, Caroline Gaines and Dorla Evans. A special childhood friend, Ron Mayfield, and a host of loving Nephews, Nieces, Cousins, Friends, and Family who will miss him dearly!
